Bang Pa-In Royal Palace , also known as the Summer Palace, is a palace complex formerly used by the Thai kings as a summer dwelling. The palace is located on the Chao Phraya River bank in Bang Pa-In district, Ayutthaya Province King Prasat Thong originally constructed the complex in 1632, and though it lay empty and overgrown throughout the late 18th and early 19th century, King Mongkut began to restore the site in the mid-1800s. Most of the present buildings were constructed between 1872 and 1889 by King Chulalongkorn. The facilities include vast gardens and landscaping, Wehart Chamrunt (Heavenly Light), a Chinese-style royal palace and throne room; the Warophat Phiman (Excellent and Shining Heavenly Abode), a royal residence; Ho Withun Thasana (Sages' Lookout), a brightly-painted lookout tower; and the Aisawan Thiphya-Art (Divine Seat of Personal Freedom), a pavilion constructed in the middle of a pond. The palace remains largely open to visitors, as King Bhumibol Adulyadej and his family use it only rarely for banquets and special occasions.

This is the famous site with the Buddha’s head inside of a tree. It almost looks like the tree is giving birth to him. Locals like to say that the tree lifted it off the ground since it was so holy. Wat Mahatat is perhaps the most historically relevant ruin in Ayutthaya, however with the central prang collapsed it is hardly worth the 30 THB admission price. Most of the structure can be seen from the outside gate. There are some very unique chedis here, but the main highlight remains the Buddha’s head in the tree.
West of Wat Mahathat is a very pleasant park, with lakes and bridges. The path passes several smaller historical remains and provides fine distant perspectives of Wat Mahathat, shown in the photograph at the top of this page, and the Khmer style prang of Wat Ratburana, pictured in the section 'Getting Around'.
Wat Phra Monkhol Bophit is a single late Ayutthaya Wiharn built to house the 15th Century Phra Mongkol Bophit, a huge bronze Buddha statue, 9.5 meters accross the lap, and 12.45 meters high, not including the pedestal.
Ayothaya floating market, the market is redolent with traditional atmosphere reproduced using a Thai style houses, one of which is surrounded by a lawn where cultural performances are held daily.
