Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park is an archeological site in Kamphaeng Phet, Thailand. Along with Sukhothai Historical Park and Si Satchanalai historical park, it is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns. Major features in the Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park include archaeological remains of ancient sites such as Mueang Chakangrao to the east of the Ping River, Mueang Nakhon Chum to the west and Mueang Trai Trueng some 18 km from the town to the southwest.

Sukhothai Historical Park is the main attraction in Sukothai Province. Located 12 kilometres from Sukothai town on the Sukhothai-Tak Highway, the Historical Park is a place of ruins and temples although certainly part of Thailand’s heritage, it also regarded as a World Heritage site under the auspices of UNESCO and the Thai Fine Arts Department. The capital of Thailand’s first Kingdom (founded in 1238), Sukothai has considerable historical significance and is a pleasure to visit. There the original city was surrounded by walls with 4 city gates.

DAY2 :Wat Srichum and Wat Phra Sriratana mahatarth Temple (B/L/D)

This Wat consists of a high-walled enclosure containing an enormous Buddha statue peering out of its opening. The Buddha's right hand points down to the ground, taking the earth as witness when he had resolved the problem of cessation of suffering. This hand is covered in thin gold leaflets left by locals paying homage to the statue. Located northwest outside the city ramparts, about 1,500 meters away from Wat Mahathat, houses Phra Achana, a huge Buddha image; the second Stone Inscription telling about the establishment of the Sukhothai dynasty including pictures depicting the previous lives of Lord Buddha.

Pra Buddha Chinnarat is an image of Buddha which is well known among Thai Buddhists and foreigners. The reason for this is that it is the most beautiful and prestigious image of Buddha. It is the highest class of sculpture in Buddhistic Arts. The artisans who built the images are believed to have an original imagination without imitation from anywhere else.

Wat Mahathat This is the famous site with the Buddha’s head inside of a tree. It almost looks like the tree is giving birth to him. Locals like to say that the tree lifted it off the ground since it was so holy. Wat Mahatat is perhaps the most historically relevant ruin in Ayutthaya, however with the central prang collapsed it is hardly worth the 30 THB admission price. Most of the structure can be seen from the outside gate. There are some very unique chedis here, but the main highlight remains the Buddha’s head in the tree. Wat Sri Sanphet West of Wat Mahathat is a very pleasant park, with lakes and bridges. The path passes several smaller historical remains and provides fine distant perspectives of Wat Mahathat, shown in the photograph at the top of this page, and the Khmer style prang of Wat Ratburana, pictured in the section 'Getting Around'. Three chedis in the temple grounds contain the ashes of three early kings of Ayutthaya from the second half of the fifteenth century; this line of massive monuments has become one of the most famous and evocative images of Ayutthaya and of historic Thailand. Wat Phra Monkhol Bophit Head back south along Sri Sanphet Road. Just south of Wat Sri Sanphet is Wat Mongkhol Bophit, a single late Ayutthaya Wiharn built to house the 15th Century Phra Mongkol Bophit, a huge bronze Buddha statue, 9.5 meters accross the lap, and 12.45 meters high, not including the pedestal. The present building was completely renovated in 1956, and is only just big enough to house the statue. Photgraphs around the inside of the wiharn show the delapidated state of the original Ayutthaya building prior to its restoration: the great black Buddha image stands in the center of the ruins, under an open sky. After the rebuilding of the wiharn the great bronze statue was entirely covered with gold leaf to give it its current splendor.
